1919 in Weimar gegründet und 1933 in Berlin geschlossen bestand das Bauhaus nur 14 Jahre. Dennoch wirkt die legendäre Hochschule für Gestaltung mit ihren Ideen und Utopien bis in die Gegenwart fort. Bauhaus und Zirkus haben eine historische Beziehung, denn einige Bauhaus-Künstler ließen sich von Zirkus und Varieté inspirieren. Die Interdisziplinarität, d.h. die im Zirkus typische Verknüpfung verschiedener Elemente auf der Bühne (Akrobatik, Licht, Musik, Tierdressur etc.) war für sie faszinierend und nachahmenswert. Ausgangspunkt für diesen Workshop ist eine Übereinstimmung im Prozess der Kreation: Der zeitgenössische Zirkus setzt – ebenso wie die Bauhaus-Künstler es damals taten – bei der Suche nach den Grundelementen seiner Disziplin an, nach dem Elementaren, nach der Bewegungsqualität, welche jeder Zirkusdisziplin immanent ist. Der Workshop versteht sich als Labor, in dem Bauhaus-Ideen gemeinsam theoretisch und praktisch untersucht werden. Er gibt Anreize und Impulse aus der Bauhaus-Gedankenwelt für die eigene kreative Recherche und eröffnet neue Kreationswege im Zeitgenössischen Zirkus und weiteren Kunstsparten.

Der Workshop richtet sich an Zirkusartist*innen und Bühnenkünstler*innen aller Arten, die nach Impulse für ihre Recherchen suchen oder ihr Repertoire erweitern wollen sowie an Choreograph*innen, -Regisseur*innen und Pädagog*innen.

Workshop-lab: BAUHAUS and CIRCUS

Founded in Weimar in 1919 and closed in Berlin in 1933, the Bauhaus only existed for 14 years. Nevertheless, the legendary University of Design continues to work with its ideas and utopias to the present day. Bauhaus and circus have a historical relationship, because some Bauhaus artists were inspired by the circus and variety show. The interdisciplinarity, i.e. the typical combination of various elements on stage in the circus (acrobatics, light, music, animal training etc.) was fascinating and worth imitating. The starting point for this workshop is an agreement in the process of creation: the contemporary circus - just as the Bauhaus artists did at the time - starts with the search for the basic elements of its discipline, for the elementary, for the quality of movement, which is inherent in every circus discipline. The workshop sees itself as a laboratory in which Bauhaus ideas are examined theoretically and practically together. It provides incentives and impulses from the Bauhaus world of ideas for your own creative research and opens up new creative paths in the contemporary circus and other branches of art.

The workshop is aimed at circus artists and stage artists of all kinds who are looking for impulses for their research or want to expand their repertoire, as well as choreographers, directors and educators.
